Lucky Luke strikes again

Well OK, I am only joking here, not really lucky, just great play from Luke Donald and a fantastic birdie on the last to wrap up the Honda Classic. As I mentioned in my post earlier in the week, I would be looking for one of my fellow Brits to do well and Luke cetainly turned in a performance which will more likely mean automatic qualification for the European Ryder Cup team.

This is great as it will allow Ian Woosnam to use his wild cards on another player.

Spare a thought for David Toms who shot a third round 76 only to come back again for the second Sunday on the trot and put in a real fight for the title.

Toms cemented his place in the Top 3 of the money list and of all the players on circuit at the moment, looks really likely to play a big part in this years Majors and give a cetain Mr Woods a fight all the way.

Quick One minute Tip - Hole those Short Putts

If you are struggling with short putts their is a nice simple routine you can practice which will help you quickly and easily.

The width of a golf hole is standardised at 4.25" inches wide and the golf ball is no smaller than 1.62" inches wide

So why do so many golfers miss or struggle with short putts? They do not hit the ball with enough pace, their is not enough conviction in their putting stroke. Well here is the answer.

Place two tee pegs in the middle of the hole, they should be 3" inches apart and three inches from the hole.

Now place 10 balls about afoot away from the hole. The excercise here is to hole all of them making them go between the two tee pegs and into the hole. Once you have manged to do this successfully then repeat the exercise from two feet then three feet.

Once you have completed this exercise, narrow the width between the tee pegs to 2.5" inches and go through the routine again.

Once you have completed this exercise, narrow the width between the tee pegs to 2" inches and go through the routine again.

If you can manage to do this exercise then short putts will hold no more fear for you. After you have done the exercise try holing the balls without the tee pegs.

You will find your stroke will be much more crisp and confident and the hole will seem like a bucket.
