Hat's off to David Duval

Well, here we go into the weekend of the Masters and up at the top of the leaderboard we see the usual suspects.

But this post is not about the leaders, or whoever wins the tornament, they will get all the plaudits on Sunday evening. It is about one David Duval.

When Duval was at the top of his game he was a joy to watch and even though his persona was a bit straight I liked watching him because he was a "Winner"

And yesterday in the second round of the Masters he was a "Winner" again, not because of his score +3 for the round, but a winner in the sense that he just did not stop fighting right to the end.

Take a look at David's card below

Hole123456789

Par454343454

Round 26103354354

Round Total +2 +7 +6 +6 +7 +8 +7 +7 +7

See he had a 6 on the first and then a 10 on a par 5 so he was seven over par after just two holes and if you add that to his first round score of +12 and he was sitting at +19 for the tournament.

Now this is where Duval becomes a winner, he could have taken the easy route and called it a day, packed up his clubs and went home early.

But NO, he bit his lip, put his head down and went on to produce, what was for me one of the grittiest rounds of golf I think you will ever see.

David Duval is a wealthy guy, money made from his earlier exploits at the top of this wonderful game. But his round yesterday in the Masters just goes to show that this was not about money, it was about showing some bottle and I for one think that we should applaud his courage when all golf fans know that he is going through the mill with his game.

If you read this Mr Duval, then as golf fans we all wish you the best and hope that you get back to your game.

All the best

Richard
