Hole in One?
Have you ever won a hole in one prize? Probably not!!!
Well under the rules of golf an amateur golfer cannot accept a prize which is valued at GBP 300 or USD 500 if you are outside the UK. The R&A says that a hole in one is acheived as a direct result of skill, so a prize therefore should be covered by the amounts above.
So next time you play in an event and there is a nice prize on offer just think about that sweetly struck 5 iron and would it could do to your amateur status.
A few years back a newspaper correspondent Derek Lawrenson won a GBP189,000 Lamborghini at a charity golf day and he lost his amateur status.
I play off a mid handicap and the only time I have had a hole in one was on a mini golf course (40 Yards) hole.
Any holes in one out there? If not I am sure you will keep trying just like me
Good luck in your golf game
Richard
